How Often Should You Service a Commercial Zero Turn Mower?

Mississippi's heat and long mowing seasons are hard on equipment. A commercial zero turn that gets serviced on schedule will last 2,000+ hours. One that gets ignored will nickel-and-dime you until it needs a full engine rebuild. Here's what we tell every customer who buys from us.

Every 8 Hours (or Daily During Heavy Use)

• Check engine oil level
• Inspect air filter — tap out debris, replace if dark
• Check tire pressure
• Inspect blade condition — look for nicks, bends, or dullness
• Clear grass buildup from under the deck

This takes 5 minutes. Skip it consistently and you'll pay for it.

Every 50 Hours

• Change engine oil and filter — this is the single most important maintenance item
• Grease all fittings (spindles, front axle, caster wheels)
• Check belt tension and condition
• Clean under the deck thoroughly
• Inspect blade bolts — retorque to spec

Every 100 Hours

• Replace air filter
• Check spark plugs — replace if fouled or worn
• Inspect fuel filter
• Check battery connections
• Lubricate all pivot points

Every 200–250 Hours (or Annually)

• Full tune-up: plugs, filters, oil, belts
• Inspect hydrostatic drive fluid
• Check and adjust blade tracking
• Inspect deck spindle bearings — replace if there's any wobble
• Check fuel lines for cracking

Mississippi-Specific Notes

Heat: In summer, your mower works harder and oil breaks down faster. During peak season (May–August), don't stretch oil changes past 50 hours.

Humidity and storage: At end of season, run the fuel system dry or add a fuel stabilizer. Moisture in the fuel system over winter causes more issues than most people realize.

Thick turf: Bermuda and Centipede grass push more material through the deck than Northern turf types. Blades dull faster — check them weekly during peak season.
